Choosing a primary care physician (PCP) is a critical step to maintain your good health and coordinate your health care needs. Your PCP keeps your medical records and can share them with specialists if the needs arises. Your PCP should be familiar with all the vitamins, over-the-counter drugs and alternative therapies you are taking so that medical interactions are taken into consideration if you require prescription medication or medical treatment. Your PCP is called if you are admitted to the hospital to consult with specialists about your care and treatment.
If you do not already have a PCP – a physician specializing in internal medicine, general medicine or family practice -- now is as good of a time to find one and start building a relationship of trust and mutual respect.
