For Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Month, Methodist Healthcare cardiologist weighs in

Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the most common types of birth defects. In the United States, nearly 40,000 babies per year are affected – with roughly 1 in 4 of those babies requiring surgery or other procedures in the first year of their life due to a critical CHD diagnosis.
