About Methodist Hospital Stone Oak Complex Coronary Intervention Center

We offer a full spectrum of cardiovascular services to diagnose and treat complex coronary artery disease and chronic total occlusion. Our surgeons are specially trained in advanced cardiovascular surgery and offer both traditional and minimally invasive options in South Texas.

Coronary artery disease treatments and services

We perform hundreds of successful cardiovascular procedures and offer a vast array of options if you are experiencing heart disease. Lifestyle changes and medication is typically recommended before performing any complex procedures. If additional treatment is needed, we will work with you on a plan for the best outcome.

Chronic total occlusion treatments

If you experience chest pain, fatigue, abnormal heart rhythms, shortness of breath and dizziness over a period of time, it could be chronic total occlusion. If not treated, symptoms can worsen.

A chronic total occlusion occurs if you have a complete or nearly complete blockage of one or more of the coronary arteries. Blockages are caused by plaque and cholesterol deposits within a coronary artery, which causes them to narrow. When this happens, the blood and oxygen flow that goes to the heart is compromised, increasing heart attack risk.

If you are on medication, experiencing symptoms or have been rejected for heart bypass surgery, treatments are available for a chronic total occlusion.

Angioplasty procedure

Surgeons may perform an angioplasty procedure to treat chronic total occlusion. This procedure involves the use of catheters to open the blockage. If you do not qualify for open heart surgery, this minimally invasive procedure is an alternative therapy option.

Coronary artery stenting

Coronary artery stenting is another minimally invasive procedure used by surgeons. A small mesh tube, called a stent, is added to keep your artery open and prevent further narrowing.
