103-year-old veteran honored by Methodist Hospital Stone Oak

In recognition of Military Appreciation Month, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak proudly honored a 103-year-old veteran Raymond Flores, a Texas native who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Flores played a crucial role in the Pacific Region under the command of General Douglas MacArthur, driven by the profound impact of the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941.

As a dedicated loadmaster, Mr. Flores ensured that Allied troops received essential supplies, including ammunition, food, and equipment. Reflecting on his service, he recalls many unforgettable moments and remains deeply proud of his contributions to the nation.

To celebrate Mr. Flores' discharge at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, the hospital team surprised him with a teddy bear, balloons, an honorary "veteran" badge, and military patches donated by veteran employees, honoring his service and legacy. This heartfelt gesture reflects the hospital's commitment to recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans and their enduring impact on our nation.

"We salute Mr. Flores for his bravery and sacrifice,” said Warren Carter, emergency director of the Emergency Department. "There are very few World War II veterans remaining, and we are honored to have cared for this remarkable American hero."
