Hospital Week is an opportunity to highlight the hospitals, health systems, and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting our community. This year, we shine a spotlight on the Santos family, whose dedication to pediatric cardiac sonography exemplifies the spirit of teamwork and compassion in healthcare.

Paul Santos, a pediatric cardiac sonographer at Methodist Children’s Hospital, has dedicated nearly 25 years to the field of echocardiography. His passion for helping children has inspired his own children, Gianna and Erick, to follow in his footsteps and pursue careers in pediatric cardiac sonography.

“It amazes me how much my dad knows about echo,” said Erick, Paul’s son. “It was one thing to hear about it from him, when I wasn't doing this work, but now that I am and seeing it firsthand from him, it makes me happy and I can't help but think he looks cool doing it.”

The Santos family not only shares a profession but also a commitment to improving patient care. By training together, they enhance their skills and foster a collaborative environment that benefits their patients.

“I believe our closeness really helps our workflow and understanding of one another,” said Gianna, Paul’s daughter. “We are able to pick each other’s brains and improve our techniques by collaborating and keeping each other in check.”

Paul reflects on the joy of working alongside his children, emphasizing the importance of family in both life and work. “It’s very nice to have my kids with me because time is too short on this earth and I just enjoy them here,” he said.

As we celebrate Hospital Week, let us recognize the invaluable contributions of healthcare workers like the Santos family, who not only provide exceptional care but also inspire the next generation of medical professionals. Their story is a testament to the power of family, dedication, and the impact of healthcare on our community.
