Local artists invited to transform downtown parking garage
San Antonio, Texas — Methodist Hospital Metropolitan is inviting San Antonio artists to help transform its new parking garage into a vibrant symbol of healing and community through a series of three large-scale murals that will be installed on the exterior of the upcoming 969-stall garage. This open call is part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to holistic healing and its belief in the power of art to uplift and inspire.
For more than 50 years, Methodist Hospital Metropolitan has served as a cornerstone of the city center, providing compassionate care to a diverse community. Known for treating the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—the hospital has long embraced the arts as a way to comfort and connect with patients, families, and staff.
“We believe that healing goes beyond medicine,” said Greg Seiler, CEO of Methodist Hospital Metropolitan. “We want people to feel cared for in every way from the moment they arrive at our hospital – whether through our compassionate staff, exceptional care, or inspiring art that brings a sense of hope and connection. This will be a landmark piece welcoming our patients, guests, and the entire community.”
The hospital’s existing art collection reflects this commitment. At the corner of McCullough and Brooklyn, Luis L. Lopez’s 30-foot aluminum sculpture ‘Modern Tribe’ celebrates the diversity of the community. Inside the main lobby, Jenelle Esparza’s glazed stoneware piece ‘Hearts That Flow Like Rivers’ honors the resilience shown during the pandemic and the healthcare heroes who served through it. Thanks to a partnership with the McNay Art Museum, patients and visitors can also enjoy reproductions of works by artists like Pablo Picasso and Alice Neel, displayed along a connecting hallway between the patient tower and surgical wing.
The hospital is partnering with Centro’s Art Everywhere Project to issue this open call for mural artists. Submissions are open to residents of the San Antonio area only, and the application process is entirely online. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2025.
