Fredericksburg, Texas — Methodist Hospital Hill Country was proud to welcome Kerrville native Evie Garrett, whose mission of kindness has brought comfort to pediatric patients across the Hill Country and San Antonio for nearly a decade. This season, Evie visited Methodist Hospital Hill Country to deliver Build-A-Bears as part of her ongoing effort to help children feel brave during challenging times.

Evie’s journey began when she was just nine years old and hospitalized for an infection in the growth plate of her heel. She spent over a month in care and endured multiple surgeries. During that difficult time, a Build-A-Bear brought her comfort and courage, a gift that inspired her to pay it forward.

“Receiving my Build-A-Bear made me feel comforted, brave, and safe while going through surgeries, MRIs, and an immense amount of pain,” Evie shared. “My bear, BABS, still joins me at every doctor’s appointment and surgery.”

Since then, Evie has donated approximately 2,000 bears to children in hospitals and care facilities, each accompanied by crayons, a coloring sheet, and a heartfelt letter. Every bear is prayed over before delivery, reflecting Evie’s faith and commitment to spreading hope.

This season alone, Evie delivered 100 bears to Methodist Hospital Hill Country, Peterson Regional Medical Center, Divinity Family Services, and Kerrville EMS, continuing her mission to help children feel brave during challenging times.

Evie’s experiences have shaped her future as well. A graduate of Tivy High School’s Class of 2025, she is now pursuing a nursing degree at Schreiner University. “Faith and family are the reasons I am where I am today,” Evie said. “I’ve always dreamed of becoming a nurse so I can help others feel cared for.”

Maureen Polivka, Chief Nursing Officer at Methodist Hospital Hill Country, shared:

"Evie’s story is a beautiful example of how compassion and resilience can inspire lasting change. Her generosity brings comfort to our youngest patients and reminds us all of the power of kindness. We are honored to be part of her journey and proud to support her mission."
