Methodist Healthcare Hospitals named 2026 best hospitals for maternity care
San Antonio, Texas — U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named two Methodist Healthcare hospitals as 2026 High Performing hospitals for Maternity Care. Methodist Hospital — whose evaluation included data from Methodist Children’s Hospital and Methodist Hospital Metropolitan — and Methodist Hospital Stone Oak both earned this distinction. This is the highest award a hospital can earn as part of U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care annual study, now in its fifth edition.
Methodist Hospital ranked #1 in San Antonio and is recognized among Texas’ Top 10 hospitals, with Methodist Hospital Stone Oak earning the #3 position in the city. Both hospitals earned High Performing designations in recognition of maternity care as measured by factors such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, severe unexpected newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, and birthing-friendly practices, among other measures. These honors underscore not only the excellence of each facility, but also the coordinated efforts across the Methodist Healthcare System to deliver consistent, high-quality care.
“We are deeply honored that U.S. News & World Report has recognized Methodist Hospital as the #1 hospital in San Antonio and among the Top 10 in Texas for maternity care,” shared Ryan Simpson, CEO of Methodist Hospital Campus and Methodist Hospital Landmark. “This distinction reflects our commitment to excellence as a hospital to provide high-quality, personalized care for mothers and newborns. Achieving the highest designation in maternity care is not only a testament to our clinical excellence, but also to our dedication to creating a birthing experience that is supportive, family-centered, and focused on the healthiest outcomes for every patient we serve.”
“We are proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a High Performing hospital for Maternity Care for the second consecutive year,” said Michael Beaver, CEO at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak. “This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to providing safe and compassionate care for mothers and babies. Being recognized as one of the top leaders in San Antonio is a testament to the dedication of our physicians, nurses, and care teams who make every birth experience as positive and supportive as possible.”
U.S. News began evaluating maternity care hospitals in 2021, rating hospitals that provide labor and delivery services and submit detailed data to the publication for analysis. For the 2026 edition, approximately 900 hospitals nationwide submitted maternity data for evaluation. Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ratings are intended to assist expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care providers, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meet their family’s needs.
“Hospitals designated as a U.S. News Best Hospital for Maternity Care are national leaders. This recognition means they are consistently hitting crucial patient safety benchmarks compared to other hospitals,” said Jennifer Winston, Ph.D., health data scientist at U.S. News. “It's a clear signal to expectant parents about where the highest standards of care are being practiced — when parents see this designation, they can be assured they are choosing a hospital dedicated to exceptional, evidence-based maternity care.”
