San Antonio, Texas — Methodist Hospital Westover Hills is proud to announce a year-long collaboration with the American Heart Association aimed at expanding access to lifesaving cardiovascular care for the Far West Side of San Antonio. Throughout 2026, the collaboration will offer free, quarterly educational demonstrations designed to empower the community with the knowledge and tools needed to prevent and manage heart disease.
Led by subject matter experts from Methodist Hospital Westover Hills and the American Heart Association, the sessions will cover a range of critical cardiovascular topics, including heart disease prevention, healthy eating, stroke awareness, and heart health for women. All sessions are open to the public and will be held at the Mays Family YMCA at Potranco, the neighborhood facility closest to the hospital, making high-quality health education more accessible to residents in the surrounding community.
“Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., and education is one of the most powerful tools we have to change that,” said Megan Cool Amalakuhan, CEO of Methodist Hospital Westover Hills. “This collaboration with the American Heart Association helps remove barriers to care and reflects our commitment to investing in the heart health of the community that we serve.”
The first session, held on Friday, February 20, focused on coronary microvascular testing, a breakthrough heart diagnostic technology now available at Methodist Hospital Westover Hills that is transforming how cardiovascular disease is identified and treated in women.
Upcoming community sessions will take place at the Mays Family YMCA at Potranco, located at 8765 Hwy 151 Access Rd, San Antonio, TX 78245, on the following dates:
- May 8, 11 a.m. — Heart Health Across a Woman's Life Stages
- August 7, 11 a.m. — Act FAST: Stroke Recognition & Emergency Response
- November 6, 11 a.m. — Healthy Holidays: Know Your Numbers & Eat Smart
These quarterly events will highlight important heart health topics, feature hands-on demonstrations, and share practical tips from experts.
