Methodist Hospital Metropolitan held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Sept. 29 to mark the commencement of a $200 million renovation and expansion project aimed at enhancing healthcare services for the San Antonio community. The project includes a vertical expansion, operating room renovations, and a new parking garage to accommodate increasing patient volumes.

"As our city has grown, so has the need for exceptional healthcare," said Greg Seiler, CEO of Methodist Hospital Metropolitan. "We've responded with expansions, innovations, and investments in technology and services. And today, we take another bold step forward."

The expansion will add two floors atop the existing Women's Pavilion, adding 42 medical/surgical beds and 16 ICU beds. Additionally, three operating rooms will be constructed to support the hospital's growing surgical services, including a hybrid operating room. A 969-space parking garage will also be built to improve accessibility for patients and visitors.

In conjunction with the expansion, CENTRO San Antonio has announced an open call for local artists to submit mural proposals for the exterior of the new parking garage, integrating public art into the hospital's evolving campus. Artist can learn more and apply here: AnyArtist

"Healthcare, art, and community can go hand in hand," said Trish DeBerry, President and CEO of CENTRO San Antonio. "This is a large-scale opportunity for a local artist to showcase their work, unlike any other in downtown San Antonio."

The ceremony featured remarks from Texas State Senator José Menéndez and Bexar County Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert, who emphasized the project's significance for the community's health and economic development.
