San Antonio, TX – U.S. News & World Report has recognized three Methodist Healthcare System Hospitals in its Best Hospital rankings for 2024-2025. Methodist Hospital was recognized as the #1 Hospital in San Antonio, and Methodist Hospital Stone Oak and Methodist Hospital I Hill Country were recognized as High Performing in various procedures and conditions.
U.S. News ranked hospitals in 15 adult specialties as well as recognizing hospitals by state, metro, and regional areas for their work in 20 more widely performed procedures and conditions. Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals analyzed, only 160 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties.
This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care, and patient experience.
As part of the Methodist Hospital awards process, data was collected from multiple Methodist Healthcare System hospitals - Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, Methodist Hospital Northeast, Methodist Hospital Texsan, Methodist Hospital I Specialty and Transplant, and Methodist Children’s Hospital.
To achieve the distinction of being the #1 Hospital in San Antonio, Methodist Hospital received high-performing distinctions in Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma, Colon Cancer Surgery, Prostate Cancer Surgery, Heart Attack, Aortic Valve Surgery, Heart Failure, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, Kidney Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
“This award is a reflection of the excellent work done by our physicians, staff, and care teams,” said Ryan Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of the Methodist Hospital campus and Methodist Hospital I Landmark. “It symbolizes our commitment to our mission of serving humanity to honor God as well as our vision of continuing to bring world-class health care to this community.”
Methodist Hospital Stone Oak was recognized as high performing for their work in Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Kidney Failure, and Stroke. “Being recognized as a high-performing hospital by the U.S. News & World Report, a global leader in quality rankings, is a true testament to the exceptional quality and compassionate care our colleagues and physicians provide to our community and beyond,” said Michael Beaver, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital Stone Oak. “It strengthens our position as a healthcare provider with the highest standards and a commitment to improving the well-being of our patients.”
Methodist Hospital Hill Country was recognized as high performing for their work in Knee Replacement. "We are honored to receive the U.S. News distinction as one of the best hospitals in our region for knee replacement,” said Clint Kotal, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital Hill Country. “Our Restore Team has a long legacy of collaboration and commitment to providing exceptional patient care and the honor reinforces our commitment to excellence in orthopedic surgery, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.”
About the study
To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from millions of records provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This year, among other methodology refinements, U.S. News incorporated new data on care provided to patients with Medicare Advantage insurance and on care provided to outpatients, nearly doubling the number of patients included in its annual data analysis. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based entirely on objective quality measures.
