Methodist Healthcare today hosted a wall-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of renovations for the new Center for Clinical Advancement, a simulation and training facility designed to enhance clinical education and improve patient care across South Texas.

This $7.5 million capital investment highlights Methodist Healthcare’s commitment to its workforce and the future of nursing. The new center will provide a world-class learning environment for clinicians and nurses in San Antonio and surrounding communities.

Spanning over 23,000 square feet, the Center for Clinical Advancement will feature:

  • 5 high-fidelity simulation rooms using advanced manikins and immersive virtual reality to replicate complex clinical scenarios.
  • 5 dedicated debrief rooms for reflective learning and performance review.
  • 1 resuscitation room equipped with a family of manikins that provide real-time feedback on CPR and advanced life-saving techniques.
  • Askills lab with 5 bays, featuring task trainers and simulation capabilities for hands-on practice.
  • 4 connected classrooms to support orientation, ongoing training, and professional development.

“This simulation center will allow nurses to practice high-stakes, low-volume scenarios,” shared Abram Bustamante, Director of Simulation and Technology at Methodist Healthcare. “They’ll be able to practice critical skills and treatments so that when the real scenario happens, they’re fully prepared.”

The center will also serve as a hub for the Nurse Residency Program, specialty certifications, and simulcast training events. To support the growth of our workforce from novice to expert, the space will host collaborative events with academic partners, ensuring continuous learning and career development throughout every stage of the clinical journey.

By enhancing clinical education and simulation, the new center will directly improve patient care outcomes and support Methodist Healthcare’s mission of serving humanity to honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare, accessible to all.
