Jonathan Yang, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon trained in advanced heart failure, minimally invasive valve, and aortic surgery. He has worked in Austin, TX, for nearly 10 years prior to moving to San Antonio in November.

I think knowledge is power, and what patients and families in the hospital often feel is a lack of power over the situation, especially when someone is newly diagnosed with heart disease. Therefore, I try to take my time to inform patients and family members about the diagnosis, the evolution of the condition, and the treatment options we are considering. I think that this knowledge helps them get a handle on any upcoming challenging decisions and steps in the treatment process.
