Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant first to receive nuclear medicine imaging system
San Antonio, Texas — Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the arrival of the first StarGuide, a nuclear medicine imaging system, in San Antonio. This system is set to enhance patient care and outcomes, particularly for oncology, cardiology, and transplant patients.
The GE StarGuide system utilizes 12 digital detectors, a notable advancement over the traditional two analog detectors. This innovative approach not only provides high-resolution digital imaging but also allows for faster scan times—reducing them by up to 75%. The system's ability to calculate and store patient radiation doses further enhances its efficiency, enabling staff to focus more on patient care.
"This investment showcases our commitment to innovation and our mission to provide compassionate care," said Kevin Scoggin, chief executive officer at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant. "By integrating advanced technology, we are not only improving the patient experience but also supporting continuous research and development."
The system is designed to improve the early detection of diseases through whole-body digital SPECT imaging and 3D mapping. Its theranostic capability allows for personalized cancer treatment by combining diagnostic imaging with targeted therapy.
