San Antonio, Texas — Staff, nurses, leaders, and physicians at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant gathered to celebrate the opening of the new Transplant Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The unit was carefully designed to reflect the hospital’s commitment to raising the bar in transplant care — where every detail supports collaboration and excellence. With the addition of this new unit, the hospital ICU capacity will increase from 20 beds to 34 beds.

“The opening of our new Transplant ICU marks a significant step forward in MHST’s commitment to providing life-saving care with compassion and excellence. This unit will increase access for patients and enhance our ability to deliver advanced, multidisciplinary support to our patients and their families navigating the transplant journey,” said Kevin Scoggin, Chief Executive Officer at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant.

The goal for the Transplant ICU is to provide unparalleled care to transplant patients with highly specialized needs. This addition will allow the hospital to ensure smoother transitions from transplant surgery to recovery, offering a seamless continuum of care, further reinforcing the hospital’s reputation as a leader in transplant medicine and critical care.
