Methodist Hospital Texsan joined KENS 5 to discuss the importance of heart screenings, even for people who are physically active and appear to be in good health.
During the segment, Methodist Hospital Texsan patient Harold Lance shared how a routine heart screening revealed he was at serious risk for a heart attack, despite being a marathon runner who thought he was in good health. Dr. Travis Batts, Sports and Prevention Director with South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants at Methodist Hospital Texsan, explained that while physical activity and nutrition play an important role in reducing heart risk, they do not eliminate it.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of listening to your body, seeking evaluation, and acting on the information you receive from your health care team.
Watch the segment to learn more about Lance’s story, why heart disease is often called the silent killer, how screenings can help identify hidden risks, and why even active adults should take heart health seriously.
