Mom returns home to welcome baby at Methodist Hospital Hill Country
Fredericksburg, Texas — For Lainey Bourgeois Riebesehl, giving birth was more than just a medical milestone — it was a homecoming. Though currently living in San Antonio, Riebesehl made the meaningful decision to deliver her daughter, Hadley, at Methodist Hospital Hill Country, where she herself was born 30 years ago.
“I grew up here. I went to Dr. Ramsey, who delivered me and my siblings. It just felt right to come back to Fredericksburg for Hadley’s birth,” Riebesehl shared. She and her husband, Jaxon made regular trips from San Antonio for Obstetrics (OB) appointments with Dr. Stafford who came highly recommended by her cousin and was trusted by her family. Though they hadn’t yet relocated to Fredericksburg, the couple remained committed to having their baby in the place that felt most like home.
To prepare, the couple attended the hospital’s Prepared Childbirth Class which is held monthly and led by the hospitals OB Team. This class helps expectant parents understand the process of labor and delivery and learn techniques to cope with labor. The class also covers newborn care techniques such as diaper changing, bathing, safe sleeping practices, cord care and identifying signs of jaundice for new parents and caretakers. “It made us feel super prepared,” Riebesehl said. “We were able to tour the birthing suites and understand the process ahead of time. When I came back to deliver, it was such a comfort to see familiar faces.”
Riebesehl described her birthing experience in one word: easy. “The team was so attentive and thorough. They made sure everything went smoothly and never made me feel like a burden. They even arranged for a room with a tub to help me manage labor more comfortably,” she said. She also recalled a pivotal moment during labor when the calming presence of a nurse named Kathy made all the difference. “There were some intense moments, but she brought such peace. I couldn’t have done it without her,” the new mom added.
Throughout her stay, Riebesehl felt fully informed and supported. “The communication was excellent. Every option was explained clearly, and I had time to discuss things with my husband. I felt safe, heard, and empowered.”
When asked what advice she would offer to other expectant moms, she replied “Take the childbirth class. Seeing the space and understanding the process ahead of time made a huge difference for us. The care we received by far exceeded every expectation. I truly believe you couldn’t be in better hands anywhere else.”
